What Is the Prognosis of FSGS

What Is the Prognosis of FSGSPrognosis refers to the likely outcome caused by an illness. Knowing the prognosis in advance allows patients to make preparations about their further life. FSGS (Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis) is a problem regarding kidney. It not only attacks children, but adults. Well, what is the prognosis of FSGS?

FSGS refers to a kidney condition in which some glomeruli are partly damaged. Glomerulus plays an important role while kidneys are working, so glomerular disorder will lead to many health tissues like high creatinine level and proteinuria. Although FSGS is a refractory illness in medicine, the prognosis of it differs from case to case, because it can be affected by several factors.

1. Treatment method

In many cases, FSGS is treated by treating its symptoms like proteinuria, swelling, high blood pressure and hyperlipidaemia, which indeed helps to slow down illness progression, but unfortunately, further kidney damages can not be avoided and FSGS develops to kidney failure stage finally. However, if patients can take the right treatment method to remove causes of kidney damages and repair injured glomeruli, not only illness progression can be stopped, kidney function also can be increased greatly. FSGS patients with right treatment method usually have a better prognosis compared with these who treat their illness by controlling symptoms.

2. Timely treatment

FSGS in early stage is not serious enough to deprive one’s life. At that time, it can be brought under control easily and also illness progressive is stopped easily. However, as FSGS causes no obvious physical discomforts in initial stage, it is ignored easily. When illness progresses to advanced stage, there is difficult in bringing it under control. Therefore, usually the earlier that FSGS patients take treatment, the better the prognosis.

3. Tight control of high blood pressure

High blood pressure is not the root cause of kidney damages in FSGS and generally it appears as a symptom. Even though blood pressure should be timely controlled into normal range, because persistent high blood pressure can cause further damages on kidney, which is not good for patients’ recovery. For FSGS patients who control their blood pressure in normal range, they usually have a better prognosis.

4. A scientific diet

A kidney-friendly diet is needed for FSGS patients if they want to have a good prognosis. Although FSGS can not be cured with diet changes, by eating the right foods, kidney burden can be reduced, which also plays a part for patients’ recovery.

Lastly, the prognosis of FSGS is changeable and if you want to have a good prognosis, you need to do as we mentioned above. If you still have any questions about prognosis of FSGS, you can ask online doctor for help or leave us message below directly.
