Is Whole-Grain Bread Good For FSGS Patients

Is Whole-Grain Bread Good For FSGS PatientsIs whole-grain bread good for FSGS patients? As we all know a proper diet plan plays an important role in slowing down the progression of FSGS. On the contrary, improper diet will worsen electrolyte disturbance and thus increase kidney burden. Therefore, FSGS patients usually have a strict diet requirement recommended by their doctors. Whole-grain bread is loved by many people, but it may not suit for FSGS patients.

Is whole-grain bread good for FSGS patients?

In general, every person has two kidneys which help keep the balance of potassium and phosphorus in our body. Whole-grain bread contains the bran and the germ of the grain, which have more nutrients than the endosperm. Besides, it is high in phosphorus which plays a crucial role to strengthen bone and teeth as it works closely with calcium. High phosphorus level in blood will prevent our body from absorbing enough calcium and in normal cases, our kidneys are responsible for keeping phosphorus level in a sable range.

However, for FSGS patients, due to damaged kidney, excessive phosphorus can not be removed successfully from the body. For this reason, limiting the amount of whole-grain bread is very necessary for FSGS patients. Here, our kidney experts suggest limiting them to smaller portion sizes like a 1/2 slice of bread if your illness condition is controlled very well. Of course, if you must avoid whole-grain bread in your daily diet, another way is try to explore other dietary options. Low-phosphorus grain alternatives include white bread, bagels, dinner rolls, English muffins and croissants, all of these brands are good choices for FSGS patients.

Finally, we must tell you even the white bread, sometimes, may be not a good choice, as different individual has different illness conditions. If you still have other unclear things, please contact us immediately for free help or send your recent check report to igacure@gmail.com, we will work out a specific diet plan just for you.
