Daily Meal Plan for Stage 3 FSGSWhen FSGS (Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis) progresses to stage 3, diet will play a very important role for the prevention of stage 4. Well, what is the best daily meal plan for stage 3 FSGS? Daily meal for sufferers of stage 3 FSGS should be able to meet the demand of their body and meanwhile cause no bad influence on kidney. On the basis of this, the following meal paln is recommended:

1. 0.6 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day

Protein is the basic of life, but for patients with stage 3 FSGS, high protein intake will add extra burden on kidney, so they need to adjust their protein intake. In general, with stage 3 FSGS, about 0.6 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day is needed.To achieve this goal, they can eat some high quality protein like egg white, fish, milk and lean meat.

2. Low-salt diet

Low-salt diet is very important for patients with stage 3 FSGS, especially in cases that FSGS presents as Nephrotic Syndrome. When we eat lots of salted foods, we will feel thirsty and always want to drink water. High consumption of water will cause or worsen fluid retention. Therefore, a low-salt diet is needed to help them control fluid intake. In addition, a low-salt diet is very helpful for the tight control of blood pressure.

3. Try to be vegetarian and eat less fat

Patients with stage 3 FSGS run high risk for high blood cholesterol due to serious leakage of protein in urine. Therefore, to prevent or alleviate this problem effectively, they need to stay far away from high fat and fried foods.

4. Adjust potassium intake and phosphorus intake according to lab tests

Not everyone with stage 3 FSGS will definitly have electrolyte disturbance, but for these whose illness has developed to advanced stage, they are easily to suffer from hyperkalemia and hyperphosphatemia which are very harmful for our internal organs. In such a case, they need to avod foods high in potassium or phosphorus like banana, spinach, salmon, avocados, white mushroom and nuts. Foods low in potassium and phosphorus like eggplant, cucumber, cauliflower and cabbage are recommended.

Lastly, diet is an important part of the treatment for stage 3 FSGS, so please make sure what you are eating are good for your kidney, so as to avoid unnecessary health tissues.
