Diet to Reduce Proteinuria for FSGS Patients

Diet to Reduce Proteinuria for FSGS PatientsRecently a patient left such a message on our website: I need a diet to reduce the amount of protein. I am losing protein due to my FSGS. Besides medication, diet plays an important role in slowing down the progression to kidney failure and reducing proteinuria. In the following, there is a general introduction to diet to reduce proteinuria for FSGS patients.

Limit the intake of protein

In order to reduce proteinuria, you should limit the intake of protein. Because too much protein can increase the burden on the kidneys so as to speed up the impairment of kidney function. But protein is an essential part of body-building. If you can not consume enough protein, your immune system will become low and malnutrition occurs. Therefore, to satisfy the need of body while not increasing the burden on the kidneys, you should eat moderate high quality protein, such as egg white and lean meat, which produce less waste. How much protein intake depends on your kidney function. In the early stage of kidney disease, 0.6 g/kg protein protein is recommended. In CKD stage 4, 0.4 g/kg protein intake is OK. In stage 5, 0.2 g/kg protein intake is recommended. If you are on dialysis, you should increase protein intake to 1.2 g/kg per day.

Fresh vegetables and fruits

Fresh vegetables and fruits are always preferred. Because they are packed with rich vitamins, fiber and various minerals, which are all good for your health. The most important aspect is that they can boost your immune system and help you fight against kidney disease.

There are some other diet which are bad for your kidneys, for example, food high in sodium, fat and potassium, so you had better avoid them. Space limited, we do not list all of them. If you still have anything in doubt, please feel free to contact online doctor or leave a message below.

Hope the above information is helpful for you. If you have any other questions on kidney disease or want to get more personalized and professional treatment suggestions, please leave a message below.
