What are the symptoms of FSGS in children? FSGS is one of the major causes for children to suffer from kidney failure. FSGS in advanced stage can not be reversed completely, but early stage FSGS can be treated well. Therefore, timely diagnosis is very important for FSGS patients to have a good prognosis. Knowing symptoms of FSGS is helpful for early detection; well, what are the symptoms of FSGS in children?
1. Foams or bubbles in urine
Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis is a cause of Nephrotic Syndrome which is characterized by a mass of protein in urine. In normal cases, no protein can be detected through Routine Urine Test. However, when large amounts of protein get out of the body with urine, foams are produced due to high tension on the surface of urine. Therefore, by observing urine, we can have a primary diagnosis about kidney condition.
2. Swelling
Swelling is another visible symptom of FSGS. For children with FSGS, swelling usually firstly appears around the eyelid, in face, inside the ankle, in lower limbs and testicle for male. In most of the cases, FSGS patients experience fluid retention due to severe protein leakage.
3. Elevation of blood pressure
Sudden increase of blood pressure is another possible symptom of FSGS in children. If a parent find the blood pressure of his kid increases suddenly, and meanwhile the kid has swollen face and foamy urine, he should be alarmed about the kid’s kidney.
Apart from the above symptoms, FSGS in advanced stage may also cause tiredness, poor appetite, sleep problem and even decrease of urine output. These symptoms help to diagnose FSGS in children, but to have an accurate diagnosis, medical tests like blood test and urine test are needed. Additional, once being detected with FSGS, parents should bring their children to treatment as soon as possible, as timely treatment can help to reverse kidney function well.
