Can FSGS Cause Pain in the Upper BackCan FSGS cause pain in the upper back? FSGS (Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis) is a common kidney problem in children and adolescents. It is an illness regarding kidney, but may cause various symptoms when develops to a relatively severe stage. Well, is it normal for FSGS patients to have pain feeling in the upper back?

In most of the cases, Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis presents as Nephrotic Syndrome which is marked by massive protein in urine, severe fluid retention, low protein level and high lipid level in blood. These symptoms become more serious with the deterioration of FSGS. Although they appear due to impairment of kidney function, if left alone, they will accelerate illness progress. With FSGS in advanced, patients always experience much more symptoms like nausea, vomiting, itchy skin, tiredness, bone pain and muscle cramp and so on. Pain feeling in upper back is not very common among FSGS patients and it usually appears as a spinal problem.

Upper back pain is not a common in FSGS, but it does not mean it always has no direct relationship with FSGS. In severe cases, kidney function is impaired severely, and this may lead to severe electrolyte disturbance and endocrine dyscrasia, which may result in upper back pain. Besides, apart from upper back pain, FSGS patients also run a certain risk for lower back pain. Kidney is an organ that is located in the abdominal cavity. When there is kidney infection, patients will have pain feeling in their lower back. Drinking much more water is helpful for mild kidney infection, but when it becomes very serious, antibiotics will be needed.

Lastly, FSGS is a problem regarding kidney, but when it runs to end stage, it may affect many our body systems like blood system, skin, gastrointestinal system, bone and heart and so on. At that time, various symptoms will appear and upper back pain can be one of them.
