When Should FSGS Patients Be Placed on Dialysis

When Should FSGS Patients Be Placed on DialysisIf not treated timely and rightly, dialysis will be the last choice for FSGS patients. Both starting dialysis too early and late are dangerous, so starting dialysis in the right time is very important. Well, when should FSGS patients be placed on dialysis?

FSGS stands for Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis which not only attacks adults, but also children. What is worse, FSGS can not be cured and once being affected by it, we are easily to develop kidney failure. Therefore, we should be on high alter for FSGS.

Dialysis is a way to make blood clean in several hours. As a matter of fact, there is no need for dialysis when FSGS is in early stage, because at that time, the residual kidney function is effective enough to purify blood. Dialysis is required when there are high levels of toxins in blood. Creatinine is a typical waste that needs to be removed by kidney, so by measuring serum creatinine level, we can have a general understanding about kidney condition and the concentration of toxins in blood. In general, FSGS patients are suggested to start dialysis when their serum creatinine level is higher than 5.

Besides, if blood can not be cleansed timely, toxic substances will further damage kidney and other internal organs, which can cause serious complications like heart failure. Therefore, many people think FSGS patients should start dialysis as early as possible, so as to prevent further health tissues. However, some others hold opposite opinions. Dialysis helps to cleanse blood, but long time dialysis not only impairs life quality, but also shortens life span. So they believe patients shout not start dialysis until their life is really threatened.

Lastly, there is no clear answer about when should FSGS patients be placed on dialysis, as when is dialysis needed depends on the specific illness condition. Additional, dialysis is just used to purify blood, so FSGS patients need to start dialysis before their internal organs are affected by toxins, so as to prevent further health tissues.
