What Are Chances of FSGS Returning to Transplanted Kidney

What are chances of FSGS returning to transplanted kidney? Kidney transplant is regarded as the best choice for FSGS patients to get far away from dialysis, but it is said FSGS comes back easily after surgery. For this reason, many patients with kidney failure caused by FSGS begin to worry how long their transplanted kidney may live. Here, we will give an introduction about this topic.

What is FSGS?

FSGS (Focal Segmental Glomeruloseclerosis) is a common kidney problem in children and adolescents and also a common cause for kidney failure among young people. FSGS can be primary or secondary. In early stage of FSGS, kidney damages are not serious enough to bring patients on dialysis or kidney transplant. But if left untreated, it will progresses to kidney failure stage which usually needs dialysis or kidney transplant to manage.

What is kidney transplant?

Kidney transplant is a medical surgery in which a healthy kidney is transplanted into patients’ body to replace failed kidney to work. It is a good way for kidney failure patients to improve their life expectancy, but not everyone with kidney failure patients will finally get off dialysis successfully, as in some cases, patients have to take their new kidney off the body because of serious kidney rejection. Immunosuppressive agents are always used to treat kidney rejection after surgery.

What are chances of FSGS returning to transplanted kidney?

FSGS has a high reoccurrence rate after kidney transplant, which means patients get FSGS again easily after surgery. According to clinical studies, the average reoccurrence rate of FSGS is about 30%, but it is likely that some of the patients who get FSGS due to toxin, viral infectin or hyperfiltration injurey will never get this illness again.

Kidney transplant is only suggested for FSGS patients whose illness have failed completely and for patients who still have a certain kidney function, they can try Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy or Immunotherapy which can help to protect residual kidney tissues from being affected.
