How Does Ketosteril Help Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis

How Does Ketosteril Help Focal Segmental GlomerulosclerosisHow does ketosteril help with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis? Ketosteroil is a medicine that can be prescribed for patients with FSGS or other kinds of kidney problem like Nephrotic Syndrome and IgA Nephropathy. It is very common among FSGS patients, but seldom of them know how it work. Here we will give an introduction about how ketosteril help Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis.

Ketosteril is a medicine that can provide us with essential amino acid and meanwhile helps to reduce the production of urea nitrogen which needs to be excreted through kidney. When kidney function is impaired, it can not bear heavy burden, so usage of ketosteril is helpful for the protection of residual kidney function. Besides, since ketosteril can provide patients with essential amino acid, FSGS patients who are taking this medicines need to follow a low protein diet (usually less than 40 grams of protein a day for an adult).

Ketosteril is usually used by FSGS patients whose GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate) is lower than 25. Besides, owing to its effects on kidney, in some cases of FSGS, serum creatinine level is detected to have a decrease tendency after patients take ketosteril for some time. This is the reason why some FSGS patients believe ketosteril is used for decreasing serum creatinine level. For FSGS patients, if they take ketosteril for a very long time, they may find they experience hypercalcemia which can cause nausea, vomit, fatigue, constipation, frequent urination and drowsiness and so on. Therefore, usage of this medicine must be under doctor’s guidance.

Ketosteril is one of the medicines that is used by FSGS patients. Apart from it, many other drugs like prednisone, cyclophosphamide and hypotensive drugs also can be applied by FSGS patients to control illness condition. These medicines are helpful, but they only help to control symptoms. When patients stop taking medicines or reduce medicine dose, illness relapses easily.
