Could Wegener's Disease Cause IgA Nephropathy

Could Wegener's Disease Cause IgA NephropathyWegener’s disease is also known as Wegener’s granulomatosis. It is a rare kind of inflammation of your blood vessels especially the vessels that supply lung, sinus and kidney tissue. Could Wegener’s disease cause IgA Nephropathy?

Wegener’s disease and IgA Nephropathy

Wegener’s disease produces inflammatory tissue known as a granuloma that’s found around the blood vessels. Granulomas can destroy normal tissue, such as kidney tissues, leading to kidney disease. They can also inflame your blood vessels so that less blood flow to the organs. Due to ischemia and anoxia, your kidneys will be damaged. As the disease progresses, your kidney disease will become severe, leading to kidney failure eventually.

IgA Nephropathy is a kind of kidney disorder caused by immunoglobulin A depositing in the mesangial area of glomeruli. Those immune complexes cause kidney inflammation. Over time, they hamper’s your kidneys’ ability to remove waste and excess fluid from your body. At last, kidney failure occurs.

Generally speaking, Wegener’s disease is not closely associated with IgA Nephropathy. But both of them can give rise to kidney inflammation first and at last kidney failure.

Early treatment of Wegener’s granulomatosis may lead to a fully recovery. Without treatment, it can be fatal, most commonly from kidney failure.
