Why You Get IgA Nephropathy

Why You Get IgA NephropathyIgA Nephropathy often occurs after mucosa infection, especially upper respiratory infection and then gastrointestinal tract infection and urinary tract mucosa infection. Have you ever thought why someone does not get IgA Nephropathy after infection, while some others get IgA Nephropathy? In this article, we will have a general look at why you get IgA Nephropathy.

1. IgA Nephropathy patients have mucosal immune function defect.

About 35%~50% IgA Nephropathy patients have increased serum IgA. Before they realized they have IgA Nephropathy, there is usually respiratory infection, gastrointestinal tract infection or urinary tract mucosa infection.

2. The structure of IgA in IgA Nephropathy patients is abnormal.

These abnormal IgA can be changed into autoantigens, which can induce the body to produce antibodies so as to form immune complexes. These immune complexes may deposit in the glomerular basement membrane, leading to kidney inflammation. This over time can cause kidney function impairment. A new study has found that even if a healthy kidney is transplanted into the IgA Nephropathy patients, it is possible for IgA Nephropathy to come back again.

3. IgA receptors and their function are abnormal in the IgA Nephropathy patients.

For healthy people, there is a kind of receptor called Asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGPR) on the surface of their mesangial cells. This receptor can combines with IgA so as to remove the IgA depositing in the kidneys. But for IgA Nephropathy patients, their ASGPR is abnormal so that the IgA depositing in the kidneys can not be cleansed. A lot of IgA depositing in the kidneys can also cause kidney inflammation.

From the above, we can see that the reason why you have IgA Nephropathy is that there is immune function defect. If you want to recover from IgA Nephropathy, you should regulate the abnormal immune system. Immunotherapy may be a good choice.
