IgA Nephropathy: Complications After A Biopsy on Your Kidneys

Complications After A Biopsy on Your Kidneys When you are suspicious of getting IgA Nephropathy, renal biopsy is usually done to make an accurate diagnosis. Although a renal biopsy is considered a minor surgical procedure, it can create complications. Now let’s have a quick look at complications after a biopsy on your kidneys.

-Back pain

Biopsy is to insert a long needle through the back to remove a sample of kidney tissue. After renal biopsy, you may have a pain at the biopsy side. But it usually lasts only a few hours or 3-5 days.

As we all know, kidney is an organ full of capillaries, which is responsible for filtering the blood. After biopsy, the damaged part may bleed, leading to blood in the urine. Sometimes the blood may form into hematoma. In some severe cases, a blood transfusion is needed to supplement the lost blood. And if the hematoma is infected, you may have to take antibiotics or surgical drainage. If the hematoma is very large, it may raise blood pressure.

-Kidney infection

If the needle is not under strict sterilization or there is already infection in the kidneys, it is likely for you to have severe kidney infection, which can add insult to injury.

Is biopsy a necessity for IgA Nephropathy patients?

With the development of medical technology, biopsy is not a necessity for IgA Nephropathy patients. There are other ways to help you have an accurate diagnosis of your medical condition, such as urinary protein component test, renal tubular epithelial cell detection, glomerular filtration rate detection, etc.

Since biopsy has so many complications, why not give up and take some advanced tests? If you would like to know more advanced tests and treatment for IgA Nephropathy, please leave a message below or send emails to igacure@gmail.com. Our doctors will reply you after analyzing your case.
