IgA Nephropathy and Magnesium

IgA Nephropathy and MagnesiumMagnesium is one of the trace elements our body needs to maintain its normal function. IgA Nephropathy is reported only by a few people who take magnesium, while some IgA Nephropathy patients say that they are lack of magnesium. Now let’s see more information about IgA Nephropathy and magnesium.

IgA Nephropathy is an autoimmune disease.

Because your innate immune system is not strong enough, bacteria and virus can go into the body. And then your adaptive immune system is activated to secrete antibodies like IgA to help you fight against those antigens. IgA can combine with antigen to produce immune complexes. Because IgA itself is abnormal as well, it may combine with itself to make immune complexes as well. Massive immune complexes flow into kidneys with blood circulation. If your kidneys can not filter them out of the body timely, they deposit in the kidneys, leading to kidney inflammation, which overtime causes kidney damage. From this point of view, IgA Nephropathy is not associated with magnesium.

Sometimes IgA Nephropathy patients should supplement moderate magnesium.

Calcium and magnesium compete with each other, and an excess of one can lead to excretion of the other. If your blood calcium level is high, it is likely for you to have magnesium deficiency. Magnesium deficiency can cause anxiety, high blood pressure, dizziness, weakness, etc. In such case, you should supplement moderate magnesium.

Sometimes IgA Nephropathy patients should limit magnesium intake.

If your kidney function is impaired by IgA Nephropathy, your body may not be able to rid itself of excess magnesium. This may lead to toxic levels in your body. Magnesium toxicity can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle weakness, etc. In such case, you should limit the intake of magnesium.

From the above we can see that magnesium can not cause IgA Nephropathy and whether you should supplement magnesium or not depends on your medical condition. If you would like to know more information, please leave your basic information below. Our doctors will contact you later.
