Is It Possible to Be A Blood Donor with IgA Nephropathy

Is It Possible to Be A Blood Donor with IgA Nephropathy“Donating blood is a simple thing to do, but it can make a big difference in the lives of others.” Therefore, more and more people are willing to donate their blood to others. In fact, blood donation can also bring your some health benefits. But is it possible to be a blood donor with IgA Nephropathy? The answer is no. IgA Nephropathy patients should not donate their blood due to their following reasons.

Anemia is a complication of IgA Nephropathy. And with the development of IgA Nephropathy, it becomes worse. Because the damaged kidneys can not secrete enough erythropoietin to make red blood cells. Besides, the accumulated waste products in the blood shortens the lifespan of red blood cells. Due to the two factors, the amount of red blood cells in blood decreases. In such case, if you donate your blood to others, your life may be threatened. Besides, due to ischemia and anoxia, your kidneys will be impaired further.

Blood urine

When IgA Nephropathy patients have infections, they often have blood urine in several hours or days. Blood donation will make your blood volume decrease as well.

Abnormal immunoglobulin A

For IgA Nephropathy patients, their immunoglobulin A is abnormal. When such blood is injected to other people, their body will reject them, which is not good for their recovery so as to threaten other people’s life.

High blood pressure

Some IgA Nephropathy patients have high blood pressure. When donating blood, people with high blood pressure easily have angina. After blood donation, your blood pressure decreases and blood flow slows down, which can contribute to stasis and myocardial infarction.
