What Is the Diet to Be Strictly Followed for IgA Nephropathy Patients

What Is the Diet to Be Strictly Followed for IgA Nephropathy PatientsKidney is a detoxification organ. When it fails to work, metabolic products build up in the blood and cause further damage to the kidneys. In such case, you should do follow a strict diet to reduce the production of waste. What is the diet to be strictly followed for IgA Nephropathy patients?

Restricted protein intake

If you have proteinuria and declined kidney function, you should restrict protein intake. Because when protein is broken down, waste products such as urea come into being. Too much protein intake will produce a lot of waste products so as to increase the workload of kidneys. It also increases blood flow into the kidneys and raises glomeruli filtration rate so that more protein leaks out of the kidneys. But you should supplement moderate high quality protein like egg white and lean meat to satisfy the need of body.

Limited sodium intake

When you have high blood pressure and edema, you should limit sodium intake. Sometimes you should stay away from sodium. Because sodium retains water in your body and raises your blood pressure further. Avoid food high in sodium includes pickles, processed food, bacon, etc.

Other diet restrictions

You should make your diet plan according to your blood test. If your blood potassium level is very high, you should limit its intake in case of hyperkalemia. If your blood phosphorus level is very high, you should control its intake, because high phosphorus level causes weak bones and skin itch. If your calcium level is low, you should supplement calcium.

You should control the intake of the above foods, but it does not mean you should avoid them. Protein deficiency makes your edema worse and malnutrition. Sodium deficiency makes you feel weak. Therefore, it is necessary for you to know the daily intake of those foods.
