Is IgA Nephropathy Deadly

Is IgA Nephropathy DeadlyIgA nephropathy is a kind of glomerular disease caused by immune complex. And it presents that IgA which is an antibody deposits in glomerular mesangial area, leading to inflammatory reaction in that area. In this way, kidney damage is caused and kidney function declines. Then if people suffer from IgA nephropathy, is it deadly? This is the first thing that patients with IgA nephropathy are most concerned about. In view of this question, we will give you a specific answer.

Firstly, let’s see recent research about conditions of patients with IgA nephropathy.

About 4%-20% of IgA patients can be in a well alleviated condition after effective treatment, and 80%-90% of them can live for ten years after having IgA nephropathy. 20%-30% of patients will lose kidney function to different degree. Besides, there are just some slight symptoms and a few problems with some patients after they have IgA nephropathy for 10 years. However, when patients have IgA nephropathy for 30 years, it is deadly and can threaten life. And about 35% patients will have end stage kidney failure at last. Others will suffer from proteinuria or hematuria in whole life.

According to the research, we can conclude that patients with IgA nephropathy have different disease conditions, and whether IgA nephropathy is deadly varies from individual to individual.

Then, what can affect development of IgA nephropathy?

There are some important factor affect development of IgA nephropathy, which are below:

1. High blood pressure.

High blood pressure is one of the most major symptoms of IgA nephropathy. High blood pressure can affect blood vessels in kidneys, which does harm to kidney and affects kidney function. Thus, it promotes development of IgA nephropathy.

2. Hematuria.

Hematuria can aggravate IgA nephropathy. Red blood cells continuously leak out from glomerulus, which does much harm to glomerulus. In this way, kidney is damaged and kidney function decreases.

3. Age.

For older patients with IgA nephropathy, due to recession of their organs and systems, they are very hard to recover kidney function and repair kidney damage.

4. Treatment.

Whether IgA nephropathy develops seriously or not depends on treatment mostly. If patients with IgA nephropathy get effective treatment in time, IgA nephropathy can be alleviated. At present, there are two kinds of treatment for IgA nephropathy: Western medicines and Chinese medicines.

For Western medicines, it has effects on IgA nephropathy within a short time and only can alleviate symptoms. Chinese medicines takes a long time to have good effects on patients and can rebuild kidney damage and recover kidney function. Besides, few side effects can be caused by Chinese medicines.

Is IgA nephropathy deadly? It is very difficult to give a absolute answer like yes or no. Recovery of kidney function is the most fundamental factor which can decide how long patients with IgA nephropathy can live. What patients with IgA nephropathy can do is to take active actions to get treated with effective methods, and this is the most significant way to have a long life.
