But for IgA Nephropathy patients with proteinuria or impaired kidney function, they should restrict the intake of protein, because too much protein intake increases your kidney workload to remove metabolic waste from the blood so as to speed up kidney failure. Besides, high protein intake worsens your proteinuria. But you have to eat high quality protein such as egg white and lean meat to satisfy the need of body. How much protein you should eat depends on your medical condition.


Excessive sodium intake retains water in body and increases blood volume so as to cause edema and high blood pressure, while sodium deficiency makes you feel weak, have poor appetite, nausea, etc. Therefore, IgA Nephropathy patients should have a good control of their sodium intake. Generally speaking, when you have no edema and high blood pressure, there is no need to limit sodium intake. On the contrary, you have to restrict its intake or even avoid sodium intake.


Fat is high in cholesterol, which increases your risk of heart disease. Heart disease is the maintain cause of death for kidney patients. Therefore, IgA Nephropathy patients should limit the intake of fat. But IgA Nephropathy patients can eat moderate unsaturated fat, such as fish oil and flaxseed oil, which has many health benefits.


When you have kidney disease, it is likely for you to suffer from vitamin deficiency, such as vitamin C. Fresh vegetables and fruits are packed with various vitamins, which can boost immune system and help you fight against the diseases like infections. Vitamins can also help your body absorb calcium, iron and some other minerals.

Other minerals

Your body also needs minerals to regulate electrolyte balance. But sometimes you have to control their intake. For example, if your blood potassium level is high, you should control the intake of food high in potassium. If your phosphorus level is high, you should limit the intake of food high in phosphorus, such as nut.
