Foods to Be Avoided for IgA Nephropathy Patients

Foods to Be Avoided for IgA Nephropathy PatientsIgA Nephropathy (or Berger’s Disease) is a chronic kidney disease. In the long run, importance should be attached to what you eat. What foods to be avoided for IgA Nephropathy patients? Go on reading to learn more information.

IgA Nephropathy patients should avoid food high in sodium.

High blood pressure is a common complication of IgA Nephropathy. With high blood pressure and edema, you had better avoid food high in sodium, such as pickles, bacon, canned vegetables, snacks, etc. Because sodium can retain fluid in body to increase blood volume so as to raise blood pressure further. But it does not mean you should avoid sodium intake.

IgA Nephropathy patients should avoid too much protein intake.

Protein metabolism does not only provide the essential amino acids for body, but also produces many waste products such as urea. Too much protein intake can put extra stress on the kidneys so as to speed up kidney failure. It can also worsen your protein leakage. Therefore, you had better avoid massive protein intake. How much protein you can eat depends on your weight, remaining kidney function and some other factors.

IgA Nephropathy patients should avoid stimulating food.

IgA Nephropathy causes kidney inflammation, leading to blood urine, foamy urine and some other symptoms. Stimulating food, such as mutton, fish, shrimps and so on can worsen kidney inflammation.

IgA Nephropathy patients should also avoid spicy food, food high in fat, food high in oxalic acid, etc. In fact, there is not a diet plan that is suitable for all IgA Nephropathy patients, because their medical conditions vary. For some patients, they should avoid food high in potassium, while for some patients, they should supplement moderate food high in potassium. Therefore, you had better consult a doctor for a personalized diet plan. Our doctors can also help you make one, but you should send your medical test report to igacure@gmail.com for reference.
