Cause and Management of Facial Edema in IgA Nephropathy

Cause and Management of Facial Edema in IgA NephropathyWith IgA Nephropathy, we may suffer facial edema which affects our body image severely. Facial edema is the presence of fluid retention which may spread to the whole body if not managed. Here in this article, we will mainly introduce the cause and management of facial edema. If you have any questions, please ask online doctor for help or email us:igacure@gmail.com.

Cause of facial edema in IgA Nephropathy

Facial edema is the accumulation of fluid in face. IgA Nephropathy can lead to facial edema, because it impairs kidney function. Kidney is bean-shaped organ which can help to maintain fluid balance by removing unwanted fluid out of the body as urine. In IgA Nephropathy, glomeruli are injured due to severe immune inflammatory response. As a result, kidneys fail to work as well as they did before. Under such a condition, unwanted fluid can not be cleared away successfully and consequently, fluid retention is caused. Facial edema appears when unwanted fluid build up in face.

How to manage facial edema associated with IgA Nephropathy?

Simple facial edema is not deadly at all, but to bring illness under control, we need to take some measures to deal with this condition. In IgA Nephropathy, the following measures can be applied:

-Limit fluid intake

Damaged kidneys can not remove excess fluid out of the body, so fluid limitation is needed, so as to prevent the worsening of facial edema.

-Go on a light diet

A light diet helps to reduce the requirement for diet, which helps to restrict fluid intake.

-Diuretics

Diuretics are helpful when fluid retention becomes very serious. There are different types of diuretics. Some of them reduce potassium level in blood and some others reduce the level of it. Therefore, IgA Nephropathy patients should choose the proper one according to their illness condition.

The above mentioned measures all can help to alleviate facial edema, but can not cure this problem. Facial edema is resulted from impaired kidney function. Therefore, if we want to get this problem eliminated fundamentally and permanently, we need to start from treating IgA Nephropathy and increasing kidney function.
