Can IgA Nephropathy Cause Fatigue

Can IgA Nephropathy Cause FatigueYou may realize you become tired easily than before if you are an IgA Nephropathy sufferer, as this kind of kidney problem can cause fatigue directly. Here, in this article, we will mainly introduce how is IgA Nephropathy associated with faigue and also, what can we do to alleviate this symptom.

Fatigue or tiredness is a common physical discomfort among IgA Nephropathy patients and generally this symptom appear due to renal anemia which is diagnosed when red blood cell account in blood is lower than the reference value.

IgA Nephropathy is a kidney problem in which large amounts of IgA (Immunoglobulin A) deposite in kidney and thus cause kidney damages. IgA is an antibody which helps us fight against harmful substances in normal cases. However, in this illness, due to immune deficiency, large amounts of IgA are produced and they finally lodge in mesangial area. In such a case, inflammatory reponse appears and damage glomerular filtration membrane, which can cause leakage of red blood cell. This is the reason why IgA Nephropathy patients always experience repeated hematuria. Uncontrolled or persistent hematuria will lead to serious loss of red blood cell in blood, and finally result in anemia.

Another major cause for renal anemia in IgA Nephropathy is decreased secretion of EPO. Kidney is an organ which not only helps to clean blood, but also secrete necessary hormone like EPO (erythropoietin). When kidney tissues are injured severely, EPO which plays an important role for the synthesis produced by the kidney is reduced also. And this also contributes to the appearance of renal anemia.

Besides, due to restrict diet limitation, IgA Nephropathy patients are easily to have deficient irone, and this can cause worsening of renal anemia.

Anemia resulted from IgA Nephropathy can cause fatigue or tiredness directly. In IgA Nephropathy, effective treatment for real anemia like Erythropoietin (rhEPO) and irone replacement therapy is helpful for the alleviation of fatigue. However, if they really want to receive permanent effects, they must clear excess IgA away from blood and kidney, and also repair kidney intrinsic cells which are damaged by inflammatory response. In this way, not only fatigue symptom can be alleviated, other symptoms like hematuria and proteinuria can be removed too.
