Treatment of Edema in Stage 4 CKD with IgA Nephropathy

Treatment of Edema in Stage 4 CKD with IgA NephropathyIgA Nephropathy (Berger’s Disease) is a kind of CKD. According to GFR, CKD is classified into five stage. In stage 4, your kidneys are severely damaged so that you have many symptoms, one of which is edema. What is the treatment of edema in stage 4 CKD with IgA Nephropathy?

Dietary treatment helps you relieve edema

-Sodium can retain fluid in body so as to worsen edema, so if you want to relieve edema, you should avoid food high in sodium, such as table salt, pickles and canned vegetables. According to the severity of edema, adjust the daily intake of sodium.

-If your edema is associated with low blood protein, you should supplement moderate high quality protein to satisfy the need of body. In stage 4, 0.4-0.6 g/kg protein is recommended.

Medical treatment helps you eliminate edema.

-Western medicine

Diuretics can help your body flush out the excess fluid so as to eliminate edema. Besides, you can also take steroids and immunosuppressant to inhibit kidney inflammation and reduce protein leakage, which can reduce fluid retention as well. But the disadvantage is that they have many side effects.

-Chinese medicine

In Chinese medicine, there are many herbs, which are diuretic, such as corn silk, nettle leaf and dandelion root. There are also some other external therapies, which can achieve the similar therapeutic effect, such as enema therapy, circle therapy, steam therapy, medicated foot bath, medicated full bath, Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy, etc. They can expand blood vessels to increase blood flow into kidneys. They can speed up blood circulation to remove stasis. They can reduce blood pressure, decrease blood cholesterol level and regulate blood sugar. They provide the essential nutrients for the damaged kidneys. All in all, they set up a good blood environment for kidney self-healing. And they can eliminate kidney inflammation and stop kidney fibrosis. With the improvement of kidney function, edema will gradually disappear.

Stage 4 CKD is a turning point. With good treatment, you can reverse it and lead a normal life. Without timely treatment, it will go to ESRD quickly. For more information about IgA Nephropathy, please leave a message below or send emails to igacure@gmail.com.
