What Causes Restless Leg Syndrome for IgA Nephropathy Patients

What Causes Restless Leg Syndrome for IgA Nephropathy PatientsRestless leg syndrome may make you have an uncomfortable feeling in the legs and it usually occurs when you are trying to sleep so as to affect your sleeping quality. If you can not have a good sleep at night, you may feel fatigued and irritated, which is not good for you to consolidate the therapeutic effect. What causes restless leg syndrome for IgA Nephropathy (Berger’s Disease) patients?

Iron deficiency or lack of erythropoietin

Healthy kidneys secrete erythropoietin to make red blood cells. When IgA Nephropathy occurs, your kidney function will gradually decline so that the kidneys can not produce enough erythropoietin. Besides, the accumulated waste products in blood shorten the lifespan of red blood cells. Iron is a component of red blood cells, so it is likely for IgA Nephropathy patients to suffer from iron deficiency as well. Both iron deficiency and lack of erythropoietin can cause restless leg syndrome.

Side effects of medications

Some medications you eat may also give rise to restless leg syndrome, such as some antinausea drugs, antidepressants, antipsychotic drugs, cold and allergy medications, neurologic drugs, etc.

High blood sugar level

Diabetes has a high morbidity nowadays. If you have diabetes as well, it is likely for you to have restless leg syndrome, because high blood sugar level may damage tiny blood vessels and nerves.

Low PTH level

Low PTH level also occurs among IgA Nephropathy patients. It may also a contributor to restless leg syndrome.
