BUN 40, Serum 3.15, eGFR 22 with IgA Nephropathy: What Does This Mean

Question: I have IgA Nephropathy. BUN 40, Serum creatinine 3.15, eGFR 22, BUN/Creatinine ratio 13. What does this mean?

BUN 40, Serum 3.15, eGFR 22 with IgA Nephropathy: What Does This MeanAnswer: IgA Nephropathy is the most common cause of primary glomerulonephritis, a disease that damages the glomeruli. People with IgA Nephropathy often have immunodeficiency. Due to some unknown causes, immunoglobulin A which should be fight the thing that is invading your body now deposits in the kidneys and lead to inflammation, which over time can lead to blood and protein in the urine, edema, high blood pressure and some other symptoms. If you can not control IgA Nephropathy within 3 months and your GFR is lower than 60, you develop chronic kidney disease.

BUN, creatinine and eGFR are the common used indicators to see how well the kidneys function. Your BUN is 40, serum creatinine is 3.15 and eGFR is 22, while the normal BUN is 7-20 mg/dL and creatinine level is 0.5-1.2 mg/dL. Both your BUN and creatinine are higher than the normal level. It means your kidneys have been severely damaged and you are in stage 4 CKD. If you do not receive treatment as early as possible, you will have to do dialysis or kidney transplant to sustain your life. Then how to treat IgA Nephropathy Stage 4?

In this stage, a lot of waste builds up in the blood. You should cleanse the waste from the blood and set up a good blood environment for kidney self-healing. Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy, Foot Bath, Mai Kang and medicated soup are a very effective set of treatment. They can dilate blood vessels, remove stasis and speed up the blood circulation to increase the blood flow into the kidneys, which can help the elimination of IgA and its immune complexes from the kidneys. Besides, they can draw out toxins from the blood to reduce the workload of kidneys and prevent the extracellular matrix from degrading so as to stop kidney fibrosis. With systemic treatment, your disease can be under control and then you can live without dialysis and kidney transplant.
