I believe all the kidney failure patients who are looking into kidney transplant concern about this topic, as it is closely related with their lifespan and life expectancy. However, it is said some patients are told to have kidney disease again after surgery, so some patients with kidney failure caused by IgA Nephropathy begin to worry if they still have IgA Nephropathy if they do a kidney transplant.

Kidney transplant and IgA Nephropathy

Firstly, I’d like to introduce what IgA Nephropathy is and how does kidney transplant help IgA Nephropath patients.

IgA Nephropathy is a chronic kidney problem in which kidney tissues are injured due to IgA deposition in mesangial area. IgA is the abbrevation of immunoglobulin A which is an antibody of our body and can help to fight again harmful substances. In IgA Nephropathy, due to immune deficiency, large amounts of IgA are produced. They circulate with blood and finally deposite in kidney, leading to inflamamtory response. Severe and persistent inflammatory response is the direct cause of kidney damages in IgA Nephropathy.

Kidney transplant is a surgery in which a healthy kidney from donor is transplanted into kidney failure patient’s body to replace the damaged kidney to work. Therefore, kidney transplant is a way for kidney failure patients to a live a normal again. However, kidney transplant is not an ideal treatment, as some kidney diseases come back again after surgery.

Do you still have IgA Nephropathy if you have a kidney transplant?

Since IgA Nephropathy is closely associated with immune deficiency, so as long as immune system is not normalized, healthy kidney will be affected sonner or later. Therefore, for IgA Nephropathy patients, they run a certain risk to develop IgA Nephropathy again if they choose kidney transplant as their final treatment. According to clinical statistic date, about a half of patients are affected again by IgA Nephropathy within 10 years and the rest of them are affected by 10 to 20 years.

Since IgA Nephropathy patients have a high reoccurrence rate, so they are not suggested to do kidney transplant if there is other option. For IgA Nephropathy patients who still have healthy kidney function, they can try Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy which can help to correct and strengthen immune system.
