What to Do with Creatinine 2.9, Hemoglobin 8, Protein 1+ and IgA Nephropathy

Question: I am an IgA Nephropathy patient for last 3 years. My creatinine level is 2.9, hemoglobin is 8 and protein is 1+. What measures I should take to stop my kidney failure in future.

What to Do with Creatinine 2.9, Hemoglobin 8, Protein 1+ and IgA NephropathyAnswer: IgA Nephropathy is an autoimmune disease caused by IgA immune complexes depositing in the kidneys. It can impair your kidney function, leading to a series of symptoms and complications.

As to creatinine level

Creatinine is an indicator of kidney function. Normal creatinine level usually ranges from 0.5 to 1.2 mg/dL. And it does not increase quickly until more than 50% kidney function loses. Now your creatinine level is more than twice the normal range. It means your kidneys are damaged moderately. You should limit the intake of meat and avoid strenuous exercises to reduce the production of creatinine. You can also drink some herbal tea, such as nettle leaf tea to increase the output of creatinine. But the fundamental way is to repair the damaged kidneys and improve kidney function.

As to hemoglobin level

Normal hemoglobin values are: adult male: 13.5-17 g/dL and adult female: 12-15 g/dL. Besides blood filtration, kidney has another function. It can secrete erythropoietin to stimulate bone marrows to make red blood cells. Hemoglobin is an important part of red blood cells. Now your hemoglobin level is lower than the normal range. I think you may have headache, fatigue, pale skin, cold limbs, shortness of breath and some other symptoms caused by anemia. In such case, you should supplement EPO and iron tablets to improve anemia. And it is also necessary for you to recover your kidney function.

As to protein in urine

Protein in urine is 1+. It means kidney inflammation is not under controlled. Kidney inflammation results from IgA immune complexes depositing in the kidneys. It can increase the permeability of capillaries so that protein, which should be retained in the body leaks out. In short term, you can use steroids and immunosuppressants to help you block kidney inflammation and reduce protein leakage. In long-term, you had better choose some natural treatment, because those medications have many side effects.

Immunotherapy for IgA Nephropathy

Immunotherapy is a combination of western medicine and Chinese Medicine. It can cleanse the cycling immune complexes and inflammatory factors from the blood to reduce kidney inflammation. It can also block abnormal immune reaction to reduce the production of immune complexes. Besides, it can increase the kidneys’ tolerance to immune complexes so that even if there are immune complexes, they do not cause kidney inflammation. After a period of treatment, all of symptoms associated with IgA Nephropathy will disappear and your kidney function will be improved as well. And then you can avoid kidney failure.
