What Should Nephrotic Syndrome Patients Eat to Slow the Progression

Question: My husband has Nephrotic Syndrome and just wondering what he should be eating to slow the progression of kidney disease.

What Should Nephrotic Syndrome Patients Eat to Slow the ProgressionAnswer: Diet indeed plays an important role in slowing the progression of kidney disease. For Nephrotic Syndrome patients, they should follow the following principles.

-Reduce salt intake

Salt intake can worsen swelling and elevate blood pressure, so you had better reduce salt intake, and avoid food high in salt, such as pickles. Some snacks are also high in salt. Before eating them, you had better read the instructions carefully.

-Decrease protein intake

If you still have massive proteinuria, protein intake should be limited. The damaged kidneys are like sieves. The more protein you eat, the more protein they will leak. Therefore, to reduce proteinuria, it is necessary for you to decrease protein intake, and choose some high quality protein to eat, such as egg white, lean meat, poultry without skin, etc.

-Increase vitamin intake

With protein leakage, some vitamins go out of body, thereby it is likely for Nephrotic Syndrome patients to suffer from vitamin deficiency. Fresh vegetables and fruits are great sources of vitamins, so it is encouraged to eat more.

-Chinese medicine

Patients should eat medicines to control their disease well. Besides conventional steroid treatment, you can try Chinese medicine, which can help you have a permanent control of the disease and prevent frequent relapse. The commonly used Chinese medicine is Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy, Medicated Bath, Foot Bath, Enema Therapy, Steam Therapy, Navel Therapy, etc. They can help you set up a good blood environment for kidney self-healing and other medication application. After a short period of treatment, associated symptoms such as swelling and proteinuria will be relieved. After a long period of treatment, the disease will be stabilized.

What should Nephrotic Syndrome patients eat to slow the progression of kidney disease? It depends on your medical condition. To achieve a better effect, diet should go together with correct treatment. For more information on Nephrotic Syndrome treatment, please leave a message below or contact online doctor.
