Exercise And Nephrotic Syndrome Patients

Question: I have been diagnosed that I have Nephrotic Syndrome since I was 2 years old and I’m taking steroids Methylprednisolone until now. I’m worried about my physical appearance. I’m getting fat and I do some exercise like Jogging and walking, but then every time I do exercise like this, there is a relapse. Why is this?

Exercise And Nephrotic Syndrome PatientsAnswer: Hi, thanks for emailing us. As for your questions, I will answer in the following.

You said every time you do exercise like Jogging and walking, your illness relapses. As for this point, I’d like to tell you that mild physical exercises do not cause relapse of Nephrotic Syndrome. The root cause of frequent relapse of illness is improper treatment. You mentioned you are taking steroids Methylprednisolone which is very helpful for slowing down illness progression, but as it can not repair kidney damages, kidney function can not be improved after the medicine. Besides, there are different causes for Nephrotic Syndrome, to avoid relapse of illness, we must get the causes removed effectively. Medicines like Methylprednisolone show great effects in treating symptoms, but as they can not remove the root causes for Nephropathy Syndrome, illness relapses easily when patients reduce medicine dose or stop taking medicines.

Mild physical exercises like Jogging, walking, riding bike, playing TaiChi are very helpful for strengthening immune system and improving immunity. Regular physical exercise helps to prevent illness relapse to some extent, but remember not being exhausted, as it may cause worsening of illness. Besides, adjust your diet according to the amount of your exercises. Make sure foods you take can provide you with necessary energy and meanwhile add no extra burden on kidney.

Lastly, the information you provide about your illness condition is very limited. I suggested you to send your test reports like blood test and urine test to igacure@gmail.com, so that I can learn more about your illness and give you more practical and useful suggestions.

Hope the above information is helpful for you. If you have any other questions on kidney disease or want to get more personalized and professional treatment suggestions, please leave a message below.
