Good Food Choice for Nephrotic Syndrome in ChildrenWhat is the good food choice for children with Nephrotic Syndrome? Children are always picky about daily diet. They usually prefer junk foods and fried foods like French fires which are delicious but harmful. However, due to kidney problem, children with Nephrotic Syndrome can not eat as freely as before. 1. Ingest moderate high quality protein

Protein is a necessity for children’s physical development and mental development. 2. Avoid high-fat foods

High-fat foods also need to be avoided by children with Nephrotic Syndrome due to hyperlipemia, one of the leading complications of Nephrotic Syndrome. In our daily life, high-fat foods refer to cream, chocolate, nuts, seeds, luncheon meat, and sea foods and so on.

3. Not to drink too much soup

In Nephrotic Syndrome, due to severe leakage of protein from urine, large amounts of fluid stay in the blood, leading to swelling or edema. For this reason, children with Nephrotic Syndrome are usually suggested to limit fluid intake, including soup. How much fluid is needed is based on their daily urine output.

4. Be careful about vitamin supplements

Due to strict diet limitation, children with Nephrotic Syndrome run high risk for vitamin deficiency. Therefore, parents to arrange some high vitamin foods which can provide necessary vitamin and meanwhile causes no further damages on kidney, so as to avoid unnecessary problems.
