Can Nephrotic Syndrome Cause Oliguria

Can Nephrotic Syndrome Cause OliguriaOliguria is a medical term used to describe a low urine output in the humans. People with oliguria have urine output more than 100ml and less than 400ml in 24 hours. Kidney is responsible for producing urine output, so oliguria is related with kidney problem in many cases. Nephrotic Syndrome is a kidney disorder that can cause progressive loss of kidney function. Well, can Nephrotic Syndrome cause oliguria?

As for the question: can Nephrotic Syndrome cause oliguria, the answer is certain. Actually Nephrotic Syndrome is not a specific kidney disorder, but a group of clinical manifestation associated with damaged kidney. In early stage of Nephrotic Syndrome, oliguria is not common at all, but in advanced stage, oliguria is caused easily. At that time, if no medical treatment is given, urine output keeps decreasing and finally anuria will be caused.

Nephrotic Syndrome is marked by symptoms of proteinuria, swelling, hypoproteinemia and hyperlipemia. Although these health tissues are resulted from impaired kidney function, if left uncontrolled, they will worsen kidney function. Kidney filters blood. During this process, it removes wastes and unwanted fluid out of the body as urine. When kidneys are severely damaged and can not do this job well, urine output decreases. Oliguria is caused when daily urine output is between 100-400ml.

For Nephrotic Syndrome patients, oliguria means their kidneys can not naturally filter blood. Under such a condition, large amounts of toxins will build up in blood, which is very dangerous and harmful for internal organs. Besides, compared with patients who have good urine output, Nephrotic Syndrome patients who have oliguria are less likely to get kidney function improved. Therefore, when urine output decreases, Nephrotic Syndrome patients should take treatment as soon as possible to reverse illness condition, or life span will be seriously shortened.
