Home Treatment for Oedema for Nephrotic Syndrome Patients

Question: I have oedema and Nephrotic Syndrome for several days now. How can I treat that at home?

Home Treatment for Oedema for Nephrotic Syndrome PatientsAnswer: Nephrotic Syndrome is a collection of symptoms, including oedema, proteinuria, hyperlipemia and hypoproteinemia. It is not a very severe kidney disease, but it can impair your kidney function without timely and effective treatment. Treatment for Nephrotic Syndrome includes many aspects, such as medical treatment and home treatment. Home treatment can help the medical treatment to achieve a better therapeutic effect.

-Limit the intake of sodium

Sodium can retain water in body so as to worsen swelling. Besides, sodium intake can make you want to drink water. Drinking a lot of water can also add insult to injury. Therefore, to relieve oedema, you should avoid food high in sodium, such as pickles and canned food. If your oedema is very severe, sodium intake should be avoided for a short period of time.

-Drink some herbal tea

Some herbal tea is diuretic, which can help your body flush out the excessive fluid, such as nettle leaf tea, dandelion tea and corn silk tea. If your swelling is very severe, herbal tea should be limited.

-Eat some food which is diuretic

You can add those food into your diet, such as watermelon, bananas, loofah, white gourd, red beans, etc.

-Supplement moderate high quality protein

For Nephrotic Syndrome patients, their oedema is closely associated with declined plasma colloid osmotic pressure, which is decided by albumin in the blood. Because Nephrotic Syndrome patients have massive protein leakage, it is necessary for them to supplement moderate protein.

-Take medicated foot bath

This therapy is to put feet into processed medicinal soup. This therapy can make you sweat a lot so as to relieve oedema.
