Alarming Creatinine Level for Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome

Alarming Creatinine Level for Childhood Nephrotic SyndromeNephrotic Syndrome is a kidney problem which not only attack adult, but also children. Creatinine is a waste produced in our body. It is normally excreted through kidney, so by measuring creatinine level in blood, we can know clearly about kidney condition. Well, for children with Nephrotic Syndrome, what is the alarming level? And what can we do to keep serum creatinine level in the safe range?

Alarming creatinine level for childhood Nephrotic Syndrome

Creatinine belongs to small molecular substances and can pass through kidney freely. When kidney tissues become necrotic, creatinine clearance rate decreases. Under such a condition, creatinine which should be excreted by kidney will build up in the blood. Refernce value for serum creatinine should be in the range 0.5-1.3mg/dL and dialysis is usually suggested when creatinine level in blood is raised to higher than 5.

Besides, although slightly high creatinine level is not serious enough to require dialysis, parents with children suffering from Nephrotic Syndrome need to be alarmed, because high creatinine level always indicates at least a half of kidney function is impaired.

Management for high creatinine level in childhood Nephrotic Syndrome

To help children with Nephrotic Syndrome keep their serum creatinine level in normal range, the following measures are needed:

1. A scientific diet: For child with Nephrotic Syndrome, a scientific diet refers to diet that can supply their body with necessary nutrition and meanwhile causes no bad influence on their kidney. Diet plan for kids with Nephrotic Syndrome differs from case to case, but they generally need to adjust protein intake, limit salt intake, limit fluid consumption, eat more vegetables and fruits that are high in vitamin and fiber.

2. A systematic treatment to improve kidney function

In many cases, children with Nephrotic Syndrome patients are just prescribed with some oral medicines to control their symptoms like proteinuria and swelling, the doctors do nothing to repair kidney damages. In an affected kidney, necrotic kidney tissues can not be revived at all, but for some kidney intrinsic cells which are injured mildly, they can be repaired with a certain medicine. When kidney function is improved, alarming serum creatinine level is lowered down naturally.

3. Good living habits

Good living habits include regular bed time, regular physical exercises and good mood.

Lastly, creatinine level is just an indicator for kidney function, so if we want to get this indicator into the normal range, we must strat from treating kidney damages and improving kidney function. Only in this way, can we take children away from the alarming creatinine level.
